brands that slayed the met gala 2022

the met gala is one of my favorite events of the year because i get to sit on my couch and rate everyone’s outfits and pretend my opinion is all that matters. additionally, the met gala is the time of year when brands showcase their own creations and ideas based on the theme. some slay the game, and others didn’t really get the memo.

this year’s theme was “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” and was part 2 of the first one in 2021. the theme was all about the gilded age, which took place from around 1870 to the early 1900s. the fashion in the gilded age was all about extravagance and glitz, women wore jewel-toned gowns crafted out of a variety of fabrics, including silk, velvet, and satin.

brands that killed the game:

versace

versace knew what they were doing with the theme of the gilded age. blake lively, co-chair of the 2022 gala, was styled in a stunning copper gown that later change to green to represent the oxidization of lady liberty in new york.

cardi b’s outfit was a high-voltage take on Gilded Age high-glamour, with an embroidered dress that took 20 people to make. donatella versace wore a custom tulle bustier, inspired by corsetry of the Gilded Age and finished with frayed denim details which extend to the skirt. An embroidery finish of frayed denim, Swarvoski gold crystals, gold leather, and chains, are in reference to the California Gold Rush era.

some of my other favorites included olivia rodrigo and gigi hadid!

gucci

i think gucci really understood the assignment with outfits inspired by the 1870s.

billie eilish rocked an all sustainable corset-inspired piece that looked like she was straight out of the gilded age.

jessica chastain wore a fabulous all red glitz piece inspired by fortune tellers adding a winding crystal snake embroidery with a ruby duchesse silk all-over sequin embroidered stole and hair accessory.

other great outfits included jodie turner-smith who wore a crystal strass chain bra and fringed mini skirt with pink pleated chiffon open skirt.

honorable mention, iris law in moschino

brands that didn’t…

valentino

i really didn’t understand why valentino chose to dress all their celebs in this hot pink but none of it made sense. none of the outfits fit the theme or just impressed me.

im a big sebastian stan fan, and this outfit made me so sad. it makes no sense to me especially because his style is usually so good.

jenna ortega didn’t understand the gilded age, wearing a 60s tunic dress.

i don’t have words for glen close’s outfit.

burberry

burberry also didn’t understand the theme at all. it was crazy and all over the place. it didn’t look complete or finished.

irina shayk wore an all leather outfit that did not look designer and didn’t make sense. it looked like something i would buy from zara.

i love nicki minaj however her outfit was crazy. i didn’t understand the baseball hat and just didn’t look right.

bad bunny looked like miss trunchbull from matilda.
